Anybody know why they are loading the new Laptops with 32 bit Vista, when these same laptops have 64 bit processors? I have been out looking at laptops and all of them I tried were core duo 2 or 64 bit athlons and every single one of them says Vista 32 bit.

Because the only reason to use the 64 bit would be if you had tons of applcations written in 64bit.

That means that the OS is only the 32 bit version and when you finally do get 64 bit applications, you have to repurchase Windows Vista or does the install disk come with both 32 & 64 versions on it so you only have to purchase it once?

It will probably be several years before 64 bit apps can be found in abundance.

You can always try to ask the makers of the notebooks if you can get the 64 bit OS.

You can purchase 64 bit disks.

If you purchased a retail version of Vista you get the 32bit version.

This way most of the programs and things you have will work.

You can then contact Microsoft and they will send out disks that convert the system to 64bit .

I purchased the Ultimate Upgrade and got 2 CDs - one 32bit the other 64.

(for the price - I should have gotten a few dozen more CDs :) )
