Curious if anyone knows everything, or don't care, or posting is not working.
Since Navigator 9 Final is out, we will find out.

Yeah... big deal. Really, who cares other than a very small group of folks who can't get over the NS throbber and/or have a vested interest in this (i.e. folks like Jay Garcia who are on the payroll)? It's really no biggie, Westside. Oh... I downloaded it but I've already seen it in action and have absolutely no intentions of making it my default nor of using it for anything other than messing with it (as I did NS 8 before it).

I don't think most folks really change that much, hence even when Opera made itself a free browser suite, they still couldn't command more than 2% (if that actually). Most people are going to stick with IE7 with Firefox the only other real contender. Netscape is over... dead in the water... a done deal. The interest is minimal; in fact, it's a rather sad joke. Look at Jay's forum... hardly anyone there. Compare that to the million or so who make Opera community their home. Even I have an Opera profile and home page. Now "that" is a unique browser suite.

Anyway... thanks for the update. Hope you didn't take offense (I'm sure you know me well enough by now after all these years). In fact, I suspect you're not overly thrilled yourself.

Woo Hoo! It finally went gold. Now maybe they can spring a couple of devs loose to work on the supporting e-mail client.

    James,
Navigator 9 has worked for me, while NS8 was an unmitigated disaster.
I, personally, don't care so much for the name Netscape, and, have little faith in AOL continuing to support the project.
One of the reasons why I posted this was because, all in a sudden, some clueless people come out reporting problems with Navigator RC1. I never had the problem, but I don't allow anything to do automatic updates (the cause of the bug). The bug has been fixed in the final release.

I understand, Westside. And like you, I also experienced problems with NS 8 and dumped it early on. As for NS 9, while I had no issues with the Release Candidate (and suspect none with the final), I still see little to get excited about. It's just a clone and for the life of me, I cannot see its purpose. Why bother with a dead browser? For folks who do not want IE 7 (which is a perfectly reasonable browser now), Firefox and Opera are the logical alternatives. Frankly, I can't really see the point of SeaMonkey either but then... that's just me.

Hey... I'm more excited these days about digital photography. I just bought a dslr for myself and one for my wife. We've both taken a real interest in this hobby and it's getting us out and about on weekends. It's a real joy to walk through the nature trails taking images and not worrying about having to have them developed or how expensive it is to shoot all this film. It might be something for you to consider. Just a thought. Have a good one.

Used to be an NS lover

I used to loved NS up to about V6 and preferred them to IE .....but from about there on they lost the plot and I have stuck with IE since then.

I have to admit to recently using IE 7 far more than in the past. It's not my default (which remains Firefox) but it is certainly a capable browser. It's all we use at my place of employment (along with Outlook which is a superb commercial e-mail client). My wife's sys admin has put Firefox on the entire network so that everyone there is now forced to use it as their main browser.

    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lou_Montulli
Lou Montulli was one of the founding engineers of Netscape. A lot of the present code is his contribution.
He was very opposed to the rewriting of Netscape, pretty much from scratch. The effect is very obvious today. Firefox and Navigator 9 have restored sanity. Both programs are standalones like IE, only better.
I have nothing against IE, but it is no answer to me.
As for Outlook, it may be fine if you have it at your place of employment, but it costs. I am doing fine with the free Firefox and Thunderbird, and Open Office for everything else.
