Any programs that can manipulate video?

What programs would you all recommend for manipulating video (in .avi format etc). I'd like to be able to lower the quality (for disk space reasons) and to be able to add effects like text on top etc at various points.

Any recommendations?

For a freebie check out TMPGEnc.

It may depend on how much you want to spend on the program, although this is not always a guarantee of what you need or want.

Try trial programs if they are available. Put the program's name into a Google search and see if there is positive or negative feedback.

Trial programs should be found at www.cnet.com www.zdnet.com www.majorgeeks.com or www.tucows.com . There will be user reviews there as well.
