I've just read an interesting reply by PeteC to a thread ( If I buy virus protection, will it clean up old stuff?), regarding NOT using more than one anti-virus software.
I appreciate the difference between the two but it seems there may be an overlap, particularly with one-stop shops such as 'Advanced Care System' (ACS).
At the moment, I am using Microsoft Security Essentials, MBAM and SAS on a daily basis. I'm also running ACS with the registry cleaner facility disabled.
I'd be grateful Pete if you are one of the others would care to comment and/or recommend on this.
The other question which now springs to mind is whether the big commercial names such as Norton, Mcafee (despite their latest ****-up), Kapersky and AVG have any relevance any more, or am I missing something?

There is no problem in using several anti spyware/adware programs provided that only one Resident Shield is running. The freeware version of Mbam does not have a Resident Shield - SAS I don't know, but I recall Broni suggesting that this is now beyond it's sell by date.

Personally I am very leary of running any program which promises to speed up/optimise the computer such as ACS - I like to know what 'improvements' are made and have control over my own destiny :) I would only use ACS in manual mode - if you must :) - or with the Security module disabled.

THe big commercial names continue to have relevance especially in suite form with the inclusion of a firewall, but need to be carefully chosen re. bloat, use of system resources and intrusiveness into daily usage of the computer.

For my part I use Sunbelt Vipre Premium - AV, Firewall & Antispy - which has a small footprint and is, IMO, very effective. I run Mbam once in a blue moon as a backup check and it has yet to find anything that has slipped through Vipre.
