the last three days when i have booted up, chkdsk runs,
    it says volume is dirty
i get "correcting error in index $I30 for file 5522 "
it says sorting index $I30 in file 5522
then it goes into recovering orphened file (with several lines of description)

    i read another post :
Click Start, then Run, type cmd, and click "Ok ".
At the prompt in the command window that opens, type:
    fsutil dirty query C:
    and press "Enter ".
Does the result of this indicate the drive is "Dirty "?

    my answer is no

is this a an indicator of impending doom?
i have a raid set up, will i lose data?

I haven't used that check before, but if it says the C: drive is not "dirty ", could there be another drive on the hard disk that it could be referring to? Try the check on D:, E:, F:, etc.

Are you certain it is RAID 1 and not RAID 0? A few system manufacturers were releasing RAID 0 configured models. RAID 0 offers better HDD access speed, but if the array is broken the data is lost. If the array is RAID 1, the drives are mirrored and if one of the drives fails, the system/data is still accessible on the other.

I don't have experience working on RAID systems. The first place I would look for information is at the computer manufacturer's website. After that I would look on the RAID controller manufacturer's website. I expect there should be utilities for testing the RAID system.

There is information about the fsutil here
    http://www.microsoft.com/resources/...all/proddocs/en-us/fsutil_dirty.mspx?mfr=true
It doesn't seem to say what to do with the results.

If you can't get past or keep getting the error messages, yes, expect that system could be breaking down. If it is RAID 1, your data should be safe, but you would have to investigate about how to proceed if one of the drives is faulty.
