    Simple Setup:

    Internet connects to Router

Xzalious connects to Internet through Router
Bloodwar08 connects to Internet through Router

    Tests and Information:

    Xzalious

    -ipconfig (Here)
-netsh diag gui - Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC - All Passed

    Bloodwar08

    -ipconfig (Here)
-netsh diag gui - NVIDIA nForce Networking Controller - All Passed

    TCP/IP Simple Two Node Test:

Xzalious cant type "\\experience" in Windows Explorer and connect to boodwar08
Bloodwar08 cant type "\\Joe" in Windows Explorer and connect to Xzalious

Xzalious cant ping Bloodwar08 with success
Bloodwar08 cant ping Xzalious with success

    I have enabled:

    Client for Microsoft Networks
File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks
    QoS Packet Scheduler
    Internet Protocol (TCP/IP)

    Services:

    DCHP set to Automatic
    Windows Browser set to Automatic
    Server set to Automatic

PS, I am only directly connecting to the internet so i can post here for help, my future intentions are to connect to the internet purely through the router.

Both should have the same gateway out of the network. That will be the internal "192.168.1.x" address of your router. If your router is still at it's default setting, that is often 192.168.1.1.

To contact boodwar08 from Xzalious, the address is "\\boodwar08 ". If there is a share on boodwar08 called "experience ", the path will be "\\boodwar08\experience ". "\\192.168.1.253\experience" would also work.

Likewise the path to a share called "Joe" on "Xzalious" would be "\\Xzalious\Joe" or "\\192.168.1.254\Joe "

If you can ping 192.168.1.254 from Bloodwar08, you have a name resolution problem. If that ping fails, I expect you have a firewall blocking ICMP (the protocol used by ping).

Ok so, i've got some of it working and i have a few more questions, all computers run XP with either Service Pack 1 or 2

A few days ago my cousin came to live with us and i was working on his comp all night and i FINALLY got it, it was assigned by DHCP to 192.168.0.12.

My Computer(now called Joe(Was Xzalious)) is Manually Configured to 192.168.0.2, but i can't seem to get it assigned by DHCP, i have everything for the network enabled, all the services started, I have the internet setup to share i just cannot seem to get DHCP to work for me.

Ok now my other computer that was Bloodwar08 is now called Brad, brad will be connected later when i get Add and Joe sorted.

Now heres another problem, I can see Add and Add can see me when i go to Entire Network -> MSHOME but when i double click the other person it says i cant connect, aswell as when i type in the command prompt "ping Joe" or "ping Add" it will come up as Pinging Add/Joe [192.168.0.x] with 32mb of data, then it will always say Request Timed out.

If anyone could help me i'll be eternally grateful.

If the gateway is 192.168.1.1 then your ip addresses should be 192.168.1.xxx, if gateway is 192.168.0.1 the ip addresses should follow suit, 192.168.0.xxx.

Yoy CANNOT manually asign an ip address and use dhcp. Dhcp is dynamic Host Control Prorocol, which means the gateway assign ip addresses and windows dhcp client receives & processes the dhcp address.

If use what is called a static ip (manually assigned ip via windows adapter networking properties) then the dhcp service is ignored by windows and can be set to manual or disabled.

Either use dhcp (automatic ip addressing) or use static ip (manually set ip addresses) but don't mix the two. And use the correct gateway address & if use static ips then the ip should match the addressing used by the gateway; 192.168.1.xxx or 192.168.0.xxx
