We have just had a good shake 6.5 on the scale at 5.09pm Local time. Having a look on Geonet.co.nz we have been getting quite a large number of shakes for the last 72 hours.
The quake boys call it a swarm. After Christchurch in 2010, we're getting a little concerned at the moment. Neil.

Thanks guys. We are all OK and no damage done thank goodness.
We just renewed our hot water cylinder a month ago (internal leak) and the plumber made sure he installed the retaining bracket securely.

When you live in a Country where there is always the worry about "the BIG one ", anything free-standing (book cases) are secured by brackets to the walls.

There have been reports of damage in the city and Seddon where the quake was nearest. Arie, I think I saw the swimming pool on the TV news with the water sloshing from side to side.

We're still getting after shocks reported and will be for some time I think. Neil.

My Dad moved out of Florida thinking that since he had been in a hurricane- it was only a matter of time before he did.... So he moved to Tornado Alley where the odds were a little better.

With weather patterns and natural phenomena and wars occurring world wide, where is a safe place to reside?
Since last evening's 6.5, we've had over 100 recorded tremors up to magnitude 5 occur around the quake zone. It's getting hard not to spill your coffee and blame it on old age. ;) Neil.

Weather line on our Daily newspaper was done with tongue in cheek today.

It read: Weather - who cares as long as the ground doesn't go up and down!
    Neil.
