    Hi all,

I'm asking the following question for a gal I work with. I am also doing this with information she gave me a few weeks ago so. . . please bear with me and my version of 'memory'. If I am omitting anything here (your questions), I will check with her and be back shortly.

She is running WinME with IE5, I believe, and hooked up to the regional phone company (Alltel) as her ISP.

I offered this site as a possible solution to her problem and she tried to log on and sign up. Unfortunately, her problem reared its ugly head, yet again. After a very short time, she was, and continues to be, disconnected after only a very few minutes online.

I tried walking her through a way to extend her time online by going through 'Internet Options' in the Control Panel. But, while in 'Internet Options' and on the 'Connections tab', when clicking on Settings > Advanced, she isn't even offered the choice to click on "Disconnect if idle for xx minutes ". That selection is visible but greyed out Is this normal procedure in WinME? And if it is, is there a 'work around'?

She has become extremely disheartened about getting 'online' because she can only stay there for a very few minutes before she is booted off :( into never-never-land.

Any, and ALL, help will be greatly appreciated!! :D

    Hi indutch

I cant think of why anything would be grayed out,
have you tried the other aproach , control panel , dialup
highlight the dialup connection r/click use properties, dialing tab
anothr way to enable ,disable iddle disconnect, You could if not grayed out here to, have them set to enable and set time for 2 hours..

How many connections are listed there ? and which one is set as default ?

Or yet another idea control panel modems--dialing properties
    Diagnostics.
ask if they have used windows connection servises>wizard< rather than letting the chosen isp do its thing.
I dont have any norton utilities
maybe that's involved--some third party program

they could also in device manager remove all network adapters
they get reinstalled upon restart, with oem systems , others may require windows cd ,

    (Alltel) as her ISP.
Take it up with them also

    Regards
    Lonny
