I have my granddaughters old laptop here with me and apparently the cat chewed on the power cord and even after taping it up it doesn't work well. The error message that pops up continuously says the following:
AC power adapter type cannot be determined. etc. etc. I just attached the picture of the error message.
I bought a Dell 45W AC adapter or higher, at the store (at least I thought I did) but the part that inserts in the laptop is too large and will not go in the hole.
What I would right now like to know how I can get rid of this message. I can't do anything on the computer as it is always in the way.

The laptop is a Dell Inspiron 11 3000 Series.
    Thank you. ok 2019-12-06 (3).png

You will need an adapter that is the same as what you have now. It should be written on the transformer that plugs into the wall or look on the battery and check the output.

As Bill said, you need to get the correct adapter, that is the only way to get rid of the message and eventually you will not be to charge the laptop. When you go to whatever store it is where you purchased the incorrect adapter take the computer with you, that way you should be able to get the correct one. Or you can go to the Dell web site and get one from them.

Hi Jean, As both MrBill and Judy have stated, the connection that goes into the laptop from the adapter is dedicated to the Model of the Laptop (Usually).
I know this from HP Notebooks which I have and the adapters are different even though the notebooks are the same screen size!!
Thankfully the "Smartphone" guys have decided to standardize their Android charging cables. ;)

Thank you for all the help. I will go back with the laptop and see if they can help me. Also with the printout of this page.
I seem to be able to get on the computer and also get on the internet so I was just looking for a solution to not having that annoying message keep popping up.
I will first go back to where I bought the power cord, if he can't help me, I will go to Dell. I'll keep you updated.
    Thank you..

As said, you will not be able to get rid of the pop up window, which is actually a good warning, until you use the proper cord and adapter. Keep us posted.

Thank you all for the great help. I did find the correct power cord at the computer store and I am very happy that now the computer works great. Also the battery is fully charged. Thanks again to all and MERRY CHRISTMAS.
