Everytime I reboot my computer, the found new hardware wizard comes up for this device (CanoniP-4100) I tried uninstalling the driver or disabling it, but when I restart, it reinstalls or enables itself again. I don't need this driver. It has a question mark listed under other devices.

The reason why this device was on my computer in the first place is that I tried installing a driver which I guess later on was the wrong driver. The correct driver I have installed now is (Canon PIXMA iP4000)

How the ***** do I get this found new hardware wizard go away for this specific device?

    Hi Snipe

    D/L and install http://p-nand-q.com/download/pserv_cpl/pserv-2.7.exe

Can be run from Start menu or the Icon installed in the Control panel.

Run it, in top left click Display then click Devices.

Find your Canon driver and first stop it then delete it. Look for all occurances of this device.

You may even look thru it and find other old device residues.

OK then you have a driver trying to load the device.

    So D/L AutoRuns http://download.sysinternals.com/Files/Autoruns.zip

Extract and run. Look under Logon, Print Monitors and Devices, for Canon Drivers.

Under print monitors do not remove the BJ language monitor but any driver that the publisher is Canon.

Also do a Windows search with Advanced Options System, Hidden and Sub folders for canon*.* delete all found.

Use Regseeker or regedit to search the registry for canon. Delete all found.

    Question

There is autoruns.exe and autorunsc.exe. What one do I choose?

Please note that this is the driver I want to get rid of (CanoniP-4100).

I would like to KEEP (Canon PIXMA iP4000).

So what you said here does not apply, "but any driver that the publisher is Canon "

Ok I did not notice that untill rereading your first post just now.

The autorunsc is only for the command line. I advise the other one! AutoRuns.

But in order for this to (since the names are the same) work I think you will need to do the below in the order given.

    1. Uninstall the Canon printer by deleteing from printers folder.
    2. Unplug printer frm computer.
    3. Check Add/Remove for any Software related to Canon.
    4. Reboot.

The 4 steps alone will likely do it (will be evidenced by the HW wizard not running on boot) and you could then reinstall your printer.

But I would then do the steps mentioned in the other posts above to search and remove the residues left by the installer.

I would do a CClean temp and Reg clean!

Only then would I myself reinstall the printer.

    Yes!

    Uninstall it.

Cleanup all canon stuff then reinstall the one you want!

Nessesary since you have two drivers with similar name mixed up.
