When you connect a USB multifunction printer device to a Windows Vista-based computer, a second instance of the printer object is created, and the first instance no longer works.

Windows Vista continuously asks you to reinstall the printer software.

You may have tried to uninstalled the USB ports and let Device Manager to discover it. It doesn't work longer than a day.

You may have tried to stop the related service, say HP CUE DeviceDiscovery service. After reboot, it turns back to automatic and the service re-started. Then, again the printer software automatically install again and asks you to put in the printer CD-ROM. But after the installation, very soon it starts again the installation.

If any of the above happens, or severely happens after Vista SP1 is installed, try http://support.microsoft.com/kb/934633/en-us. But apply it at your own risk.

A sound device driver problem under XP SP2 behaves veru similar to this one. All happened within a week after Windows Update.

    Microsoft Hotfix KB934633 doesn't work

I made an on-line request to Microsoft and obtained the hotfix, which is password-protected and zipped. Once unzip with the password, a folder Windows6.0-KB934633-x86 contains the hotfix.

When I ran the hotfix, it told me "This update does not apply to your system." and I couldn't continue.

I told Microsoft and HP, waiting for their solution.

I only have this problem with HP Photosmart Essential 2.01 with the HP C5280 Photosmart All-In-One printer. I don't have this problem with EPSON, yet.

I had same problem with my HP computer and HP 3 in 1.
I was told by HP tech. support to remove the hotfox but it made no difference.
When SP1 became available that fixed all my problems.

On the contrary, I encountered the problem after installing Vista SP1.

When I called Microsoft, they asked me to contact Australia Microsoft, and ustralia Microsoft told me to contact Asus because my Microsoft Vista wais OEM and not directly supported by Microsoft. Do you think Asus has the adequate technical knowhow in Microsoft product?

Hi, I have found with HP printers ( 3 in1) , if you run out of paper or take the paper out then try to print , it tells you to install the printer again. ????
I contacted HP support and they virtually said dont run out of paper,
Not much help. I have always ( and still have ) had Epson gear and no probs,
    Cheers Des.
