    I bought an AMD 1.1Gig Duron processor for my computer because the M/B manual said it could take up to a 1.5 Gig processor.

    I found out that my motherboard (Gigabyte GA-71XE4)would not support it. Their web site said that it would support it with an upgraded Bios to f9. When I tried to flash the Bios I was flagged that the chipset was wrong and the upgrade would not load.

    Is there anything I can do to get this processor to work?

    Computer Generic
    800 megahertz AMD Duron
    OS XP
    Bios American Megatrends Inc. 62710
    06/01/2000
    512 MB Memory

    If you don't get an answer here try posting to one of these newsgroups;
    alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.giga-byte
    alt.comp.periphs.mainboard.gigabyte
    The Gigabyte techs answer questions, but sorry, I don't know which one.

    Is it a matter of getting the right bios for your chipset?

    I installed the right bios and installed the processor a couple of days ago.
