Hey all! I finally finished my new computer. I have a question about CPU temp though. My Athlon XP 1600+, after roughly 2.5 hours of continuous use and software installation, is running at 46 Celsius, 114 F. Is that acceptable?

As long as your temps don't go past 55°C you should be fine.

AMD Athlon TBirds, and XPs can handle up to 90°C before frying, but if you ever get up there, expect coughing up some cash to get another processor. AMD Recommends keeping temps below 60°C.

Thanks! This is my first time running above 500mhz. I know I read that on the old board, but couldn't find it here.

I just installed an XP 1600+ and it idles at 35C, not sure about full load - probably around 40C tops. You could probably improve your temps but 46C is fine. I like to keep cpus under 50C at full load if possible.

With a little modification to the desk for air flow, I never top 45 anymore. :)

So how do you like that motherboard? I've got the same setup, except for using DDR and a TNT2 ( 32 mb ) video. I was kind of skeptical at first, but I LOVE this baord... very stable. The temps you're describing seem normal to me for the most part depending on your cooling set up. I'm using a "Volcano " fan and have a slot fan drawing air out in back and another setup in front to pull fresh air in. Mine runs about 100° most of the time. You can get my full specs/pics of mine here

So far I am impressed with the system. My only hang-up really is my video card. I'm using an S3 Savage 2000 AGP 64MB, but it's not as good as I was hoping for. I have an MX-400 64MB board still in its box I think I'm going to slide in and see about. The DDR is a step-up I'll go to later, as it is, the supplier threw in the PC-133 chip, so I took it. As for my OS, I'm not as impressed with Win2K as I was hoping for either. Too many compatibility issues.

Well, I personally have had mixed results with W2k.... I'm running XP, and having no compatibility issiues as of yet <knock on wood>. Even my older programs seems to run fine.
