v Currently there is 192 mb of Ram on the Amd 350
There is a real deal on Ram available
Would adding additional ram speed things up ?
What amount would be optimal. :)

Depends How much ram does your motherboard support? I've seen some older mobo's (in that era) that would only support 128Mb & some with 256Mb. What OS are you running? What does the computer do? Do you just surf the web, a few documents, or do Graphic designs. All this plays a part in it. The first thing to do is find out what Motherboard you have and what its limitations are.

    motherboard and ram information

    Bubba169,

aida32 is sure an exceptional program.
It lists the motherboard as an EP-51MVP2E-M
the ram is 192 mb of 100 mhz PC100 ram
the specifications for the motherboard are " SDRAM PC100 (3x) or 72-pin SIMM (2x) "
The installed ram is one 128 mb and one 64 mb
I use the Amd 350 mainly to surf the internet with a residential
    cable connection
As well I use the computer to listen to RealPlayer
What would be the optimal amount of Ram on this machine ?

    thanks

Personally I don't think you'll see that much increase. One of my Win98SE boxes has 64Mb, K6-2 400Mhz and does fair, my other Win98SE box has 256Mb of DDR, XP 1800 (it's a triple boot Redhat 7.2, Mandrake 8.2, Win98SE) the main reason I went with 256Mb in this box was because of using KDE under the two Linux distros. My opinion is that with a 350Mhz system and older hardware design that the bottleneck will occur in the data path regardless of the amount of ram.

    Just my opinion

confused about how much Ram Win 98 se

the reason that I am asking the question is for a friend who only does run of the mill Internet browing with a cable modem (router)
    and an Amd 350.
Currrently he also has 192 mb of Ram.
There seem to be two schools of thought
    1) that with the older slower processes that after a point ( in this 192 mb) more Ram will not increase your speed and may even slow you down .
    2) like male organ size you can never have too much ram even with these older machines and that the only limit is the physical
limit of Ram slots on your motherboard.
Along with this school of thought is that the newer more robust versions of software require increased amount s of Ram so
that while 128 mb of Ram was more than enough to run older versions newer versions can do better with more Ram.

How confusing !
