There's no human observable difference. Go for the best deal on other criteria.

I refer to the speed of otherwise identical CPUs; 1.800 vs. 1.750 Ghz. I'd prefer an athlon with double the size onboard cache (512 MB).

I have a 2800 and it is faster than blazes. Just went to Microcenter with a friend on Friday and he bought a new Compaq SR1230NX with SP2 and the 3200 for $449. after rebates. It has 160MB HD 512MB Ram, A DVD writer, a CD-ROM, no floppy drive, 2 firewire ports, 6 USB 2.0, etc.
The price includes a $100 reduction for opening a Microcenter VISA account which is a free credit card.
I think the 3200 by itself is over $200. Can't beat this price with a computer of that power.
Can order this computer off of their website, but you will not get xtra $100. for new credit card.

Sparrow, I noticed you have Mandrake which I was going to load onto a new 200GB HD I just installed. I am using a Netgear USB adapter(WG121) to connect my computer with a wireless system and it does not seem to be supported by Netgear even though several people on a Mandrake website have managed to get to work--but I can not understand their explanation since I know zilch about linux and method they describe is complex. What are you using for your internet connection?

I don't use mandrake for surfing anymore; just keep it around for occasional troubleshooting. I have an external dial-up 56K modem for linux since Intel has no drivers for linux/unix for their internal Intel 2100 DSL modem that my windows is using.
