    It appears to be a sort of mesh network piggybacking upon all of sidewalk enabled devices. My understanding is that such a device communicates with other sidewalk enabled devices, sharing location and other network data and maintaining an always-on Internet connection via all the devices. Thus, if your Ring doorbell loses its wifi connection to your wifi router it can still be accessed by your mobile app via the mesh system operating in the background. Probably also has the capability of a "neighborhood watch" for police, or will evolve into it.
