My Windows XP home always get this "Incoming Call" message every around 2 hours of connection time.

The message just popped up and there are option to answer and ignore, but i can't choose as i got disconnected right after the message appeared.

I never have this kind of problem when I'm using my PC (by the way, the problem only occur in my Dell Laptop Inspiron 2650 with Win XP Home). My PC is Windows 2000.

I have disabled my call waiting feature on my phone line.
    But still the problem exist.

    Can anyone help?

Double-check that you have the latest driver.

And yes I have the latest one: 2.40.24.0

Unless there is a newer one?

Does it do that if you use Modem Helper (in Modem Properties) to select Safe Mode 1 or 2?

Copy the following text into Notepad and save to your desktop as a file with a .bat extension:-

--------------- copy text below this line ------------------------------------

    @echo off
    echo [HKR] > %windir%\smcfg.ini
    echo HostBasedModemData\Parameters\DPDriver,ModemOnHoldEnabled,1,00,00,00,00 >> %windir%\smcfg.ini
    smcfg

--------------- copy text above this line ------------------------------------

Whilst this *may* fix the problem, I'd also suggest that you refer the matter to Dell as this is *definitely* a driver issue.

Please post back with the results.

What do those line do? (just curious)

And yes I have contacted DELL and they have not reply my query yet.

And do you know the modem manufacturer's website? So I can check if I have the latest driver.

As far as the dell's website, I have the latest driver.

    THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.

I'll try the code and post any success.

Ok tried your code and get this error:

    HostBasedModemData\Parameters\DPDriver,ModemOnHold
'Enabled' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file
'smcfg' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file

    What's wrong?

**** :( I had hoped that the .bat file would work with the Dell modem, but obviously not.

BTW, I suspect, unfortunately, that unixfan's idea will not help.

PCTEL simply sell the chipsets which other manufacturers (in this case, Dell) use in their modems. The most recent driver will, therefore, be the one which is available from Dell.

Hmmm. V.92 modems support "modem-on-hold" which, I think, requires call-waiting in order for it to function: would I be correct in assuming that you do not have a call-waiting service? If so, it could also be worth running this matter past your ISP.

In short, I think that you're going to have to wait for Dell to get back to you.

Yes I have disabled my call waiting service.

And as I noted before, I never have this kind of problem with my Windows 2000 PC with serial modem.

    Only with my dell laptop.

Can you think of any other way?

    Thanks
