    Hi,

I have setup a number of accounts that are used simply for the purposes of allowing a network logon to access some shares. Each account allows varying access to various shares. So far so good.

I was surprised that all shared directories appear in all network logon's, however, not all directories may be accessed! Is this normal or is it possible to only shown certain directories and hide others?

    And finally.

Does it matter what account type (administrator or limited) is used given that the accounts are only used to allow other users on the network access to some shares?

    Regards FarmerJo

You can set some shares to display and some to remain hidden but it is global so the same for all users.

Any share that ends in $ will be hidden.

As a matter of good practice, I would not allow administrative access to the PCs via the network except for your account. Too easy for a user to damage things without meaning to.

Likewise, if I am using an account to connect to PC-A and that account has admin rights, I can simply connect to the hidden admin share that each XP drive has and have the full run of the PC. For example, I could do start~run~\\PC-A\C$ and have a window opened at the root of C: with all it's contents available to me.

Of course if you had a proper File Server system like Novell, you'd only see the folders you had rights to. :p
