When I open All Programs on my start up screen what I get is a cut off version with 2 1/2 columns, even though there is enough screen I can't drag it over, attempting to drag causes the screen to close.

I've done nothing I'm aware of to cause this, it just appeared one day on it's own. Hope someone can help.

    XP error

When you say you have 2 1/2 columns, do you mean that not all applications installed are showing up or that you cannot read the name of the applications as the text does not fit in the column?

    XP Error

I mean that the third column being cut off I sometimes can figure out what they are, but most of the time I can't; only part of the program shows through.

The only reference I can find to your issue suggests a Repair of XP.

Thats kind of my thoughts too, had it been that you could only view a few applications then I would have thought it was set to user preferred menus but seeing as you are losing part of the actual name, sounds like a problem with OS - try a repair, if you have data on your drive first you might want to back that up first!

    Hi Shacko,

Here's a post from the past that may help:
    http://www.windowsbbs.com/windows-xp/81410-seeing-all-three-columns-start-menu-all-programs.html

It involves shortening the long names on the programs list.

    Hi shacko,

Well, darn it! I don't like scrolling the programs menu either. Did you try the "renaming the long names" recipe.

Your welcome for the compromise we found and while it's better than an OS reinstall for a nuisance, that's little comfort when the startmenu blows raspberries at you every time you open it. :)

I always say the user, < that's you, knows, best, when to "throw in the towel" but I am curious if you "just got tired of messing with this or actually had problems figure out how to rename the shortcuts "?

If you just feel as though you've wasted enough time on this let me know and we'll consider this "all programs list" post a done deal...:D

What is the longest name you have in the programs list, "quoted "?

I tried to shorten the names on my start menu but, the only link you gave that showed how to do it was deleted.

The longest name in my programs list is:
"Microsoft Office PowerPoint Viewer 2003 "

It's a matter of simply renaming any extremely long names.

You can do that by clicking Start> All Programs and right-clicking on any very long ones and selecting "Rename." Give it a shorter name. Repeat as needed.

    Another method:

Start > Run > type %userprofile%\Start Menu\Programs > OK > rename the long file names you see there as needed.
