Intel Pentium 800,256 RAM,WindowsSE,dial up,no firewall,no proxy,IE6.0.Trying to use AIM voice chat, everything works right up to the Talk Box.There are 3 fields with green lights,Talk,Pause and Disconnect. When I get this far only the green light for disconnect is available, other 2 are greyed out,and at the bottom of the box it never goes past "connecting ".
I have read all the help files,I know the mike and speakers are OK for they work in Yahoo.I am hoping that some one has a working AIM talk and can tell me just what I am missing.I have the latest version of AIM,sound device drivers,it is full duplex.
    Thank you in advance.

    Hi marbar222.

From the lack of answers to a few recent IM questions I have to think it's an area where we lack expertise just now. I'm certainly as dumb as a stump about the apps. :)

Please understand I'm not trying to run you off and please post back with other questions in the future but I suggest you post this particular one to BigBlueball.com.

In fact, please do keep checking back since chances are excellent that someone will post an IM question you can help them with.

Thank you Newt for the info about BigBlueball.com.
Since posting I tried connecting with a different buddy, did connect, rather poor sound, but did achieve a connection.
I was trying to set up AIM for another buddy so he could talk to a relative in Alaska--with his and my computers cannot get past the Talk Connection box.
This makes me think it is something in his computer so I will recheck his settings and try again.Maybe register and post in BigBlueball.Thank you again.

Good luck and please do post back with your results. IM is popular and I'm certain that others with a similar problem will look at this post so they will benefit from any information you provide.

You may have some file corruption, try doing an uninstall/ reinstall of AIM. I have been using AIM voice chat since Win98Se was new.

rcerrato - whew, glad you showed up. I've been trying to wing it but you can put all I know about IM and the various products into a very small container (thimble maybe) and have lots of room left over. :D

    Hi rcerrato
I just finished uninstalling/reinstalling AIM.Now I have to wait until one of my 2 buddies with mikes sign on so I can see if anything is improved. So if/when I get to test my new installation I will get back to you. Thanks again.

YEAH!!My buddy did uninstall/reinstall too this am and we now have audio chat.Needs fine tuning re volume but the new installs seem to fix it.
Neither of us changed anything else in the program.
In the back of my mind I considered the reinstall, hesitated because I thought I would lose my long term screen name.
Thanks rcerrato for the push I needed.
The only other thing--we just found that using a headset is better too.
