ahci or ide for sata drive

    I just finished building my fist system and in the bios menu under storage configuration it lists 3 choices: ide, ahci, and raid. I have it on ahci mode at this point because I know I dont want the ide but I dont know what ahci really is, or, why the bios doesnt just have a sata mode. The mobo specs did indicate 3.0gb/s speed capable for sata. Any help for this noob would be appreciated
