    Hello Everyone,

Using Lenovo G585 laptop, Firefox 72.0.1. 64 bit.

    Yesterday I had a marathon 6.75 hour W 10 update!

Now I have a few problems to sort out.

The desktop shows the folders, and the photo which I had to re-place on it as it had been removed during the update. The background behind all these is brilliantly white and as I can't find a way to darken it I would seek advice on how I can do this please!

When I open a folder on the desktop now, it now shows all the other folders on the desktop and tools at the top . I don't know if this is "normal" or something that needs to be altered.

The taskbar with the apps and start is now coloured as is the top ? bar with the name of this forum and the Firefox logo. The tool bar - with the search bars and shortcuts - is completely black. Can I change this toolbar colour anywhere or is that the new 'colour' for the recent update?

My technical ability is pretty poor, so please keep any advice 'simple'!

    Many thanks,

    Colin.

Hi Colin, have you Shut down the comp and Started it again at least once to see if it corrects itself?

You may need to do a Refresh:
    To refresh your PC
    1. Swipe in from the right edge of the screen, tap Settings, and then tap Change PC settings. ...
    2. Tap or click Update and recovery, and then tap or click Recovery.
    3. Under Refresh your PC without affecting your files, tap or click Get started.
    4. Follow the instructions on the screen.

    Hello Retired Learner,

    Thanks for your post.

First, the laptop has been shut down and started up about 4 times since the update.

Having clicked on Settings, I do not get a “Change PC settings.”

At the bottom right there is an indicator for – Update and Security, giving - Windows Update, recovery backup.

There is a choice of Recovery but clicking that only offers – Reset this PC; Go back to a previous version of W10; Advance start up, which offers to start up from a device or disc, which does not apply in my case!

So I suppose I now have to go back to square one and try to throw a six!

    Regards,

    Colin.

Hi Colin, Sorry I did not check the Refresh process above. Looks like it was for an earlier version/build of W10.
If you go to Settings > Update & Secuity > Recovery > Reset > this option should retain your files and hopefully restore your Default OS.

    Hello Retired Learner,

    OK! Thanks for your honesty!

Your advice is gratefully noted and I shall copy it and save it for a later date.

The detail beside the ‘Reset this PC’ states that I get the choice to keep my personal files or remove them and then it re-installs Windows!

My recent Install of the downloaded Updates took just under 7 hours from start to finish! I really don’t want to have to sit glued to the screen for that length of time again too soon, so I shall wait a little while!

Just to explain my reason – I have Linux partitioned on my HD and the default option on Start is for Linux. I find that during the Installation the laptop is restarted at various times and I need to be here to watch and choose Windows rather than let it go straight to Linux and then have to power out and power back on again!

I will try to remember to return with a note for you when I try to do this to inform you if it was a success or not!

    Regards,

    Colin.
