After ripping a CD to disk I then go back to listen to the songs sequentially and delete a few songs that I don't want. Sometimes, I find that the highlighted song that is supposedly playing actually has the title for the next song and if I inadvertently delete the song with the correct title it is the wrong song.

This has happened several times. How do the songs vs titles get shifted by one and how can I prevent it?

Are you using thumbnail view to view them? If so, try deleting the thumbs.db file in the problem folder(s). Then close and re-open the folder.

You need to have windows set to show hidden files to do this. In any folder click tools>folder options>view tab. Tick the line that says show hidden files and folders.

I really don't know if this will help or not but it's worth a try. You can't hurt anything by doing it.

Thanks, but I'm just using the default Windows Media - Now Playing list which shows about 30 songs as they play sequentially. It's just intermittent but I'm trying to figure out how the title and song sometimes get out of order by one.

    Sorry, guess I misunderstood.

How are you naming them? Do you type the names in manually or are you getting the names from the remote CDDB? If the latter, are you sure the songs are in the correct order when you get them? When using the CDDB in the past, I've seen where the songs weren't listed in the proper order. My guess is that it's probably an error on the part of the person who submitted the album. So, if you're using the CDDB to name them, double check the order of things before you accept it.

That's about the only thing I can think of that would cause it. If it's a Media Player problem I wouldn't have any idea why this would happen.

I'm not naming them, just ripping them off of a factory CD. I haven't checked the order vs name on the CD but I guess that's a possibility.

Well, I don't use Media Player for this but I tried messing with this a bit here with a couple cds. It appears that when Media Player retrieves the info for a cd you aren't given any options to change things. I don't know for sure, but what I said above could be what's happening.

The programs I use for this will retrieve the info for a given cd and then let you choose from a list of albums. Also, you're able to edit the list if anything isn't the way it should be. Just from a quick glance using Media Player it doesn't appear this is possible.

As I said, I don't know if this is what's happening but perhaps you should try using another program to rip your cds. My favorite is CDex (free). When it retrieves the song names for the cd you can view them, compare them to the cd and edit them if necessary. As I said, I've had to do this on more than one occasion. You might want to try CDex and see if you have any better luck. That's about all I can say about this. Perhaps somebody else will have an idea.

    Zander,

Thanks for the heads up on CDex. I'll definitely give it a try and the price looks in my range also!
