I shake the mouse or hit enter on my vista system - after the screen saver has finished and the monitor has gone into the power saving mode - when I wish to continue using the computer. At that time, I am prompted to log in again. I understand why that happens, but here is my question:

Is there a way I can either eliminate the prompt to log in again, or at least extend the time setting so that it would not happen so quickly?

    Appreciate all replies.

Hi Norm. Right Click on a blank area of your desktop and select personalize. When the Personal Appearence window opens click the screensaver button. Once the screen saver setting windows opens there is a box that says wait XXX amount of minutes for the screensaver to start. You can change that to whatever amount of time you wish. Next to that box there is a Checkbox that says on resume display logon screen. Uncheck that box and click apply and ok. Now when your screensaver comes on and you move the mouse to get rid of it, your computer won't bring up the logon screen anymore.

Also, if you want to increase the amount of time your monitor is on before it shuts off then click Start< Control Panel< System and Maintenance< Power Options. Click the button that says Choose when to turn off the display. You can change how long it will take before your monitor turns off. When you are done hit ok and thats it. :)

Thanks much Mr. Terminator. I must have a different version of Vista because getting to the place to change the monitor options was different from your instruction, but close enough that I was able to find it with the help you provided. My Vista is Home Premium 64-bit with Service Pack 1.

I appreciate you helping me out. Not everyone is kind enough to take the time to do that, but you did and you earned a gold star in my book. :)
