After update of firefox in windows 7 home premium home computer, existing icons on desktop will not open programs (ccn, msnbc, yahoo mail, etc). Had worked correctly up to point of updating-have done restore option but still same problem. When I click icons, blue circle goes around icon on desktop for about 1 second then nothing happens- any ideas?

I have found the solution to my problem-the new download of firefox deleted the paths necessary to open the icons on my desktop-when i deleted existing shortcuts and reinstalled new ones, the problem was corrected-thanks anyway

Also, it is not clear to me how these shortcuts were created. To me they seem to be websites, which may require a tab or a bookmark. A shortcut for each website is a major overkill, and contributor to clutter.
I see that the problem was solved, but I stand by my evaluation.
