charlesvar--Is this really anything new? Many moons ago, there were "cookies" which reported back info on surfing so that targeted ads would be offered. Perhaps dialers and keylogging has been added, but it remains the same. PC users have to protect themselves with antivirus, spyware protectors and blockers, firewall, IE security settings, etc.
No sure I see much difference between adware and spyware. Or perhaps you can help us understand the difference.

    Hi Jim,

Cookies didn't hijack your Browser. What's new is these techniques are now being used on a wider scale for commercial purposes, targeting ads no longer enough because users have defenses for pop-up ads and the like. So the escalation.

Agreed, hard to tell the difference between adware and spyware these days.

    Regards - charles
