    Need help helping someone
Ive asked trish34 to ask in a hardware forum,,
So ive started this here for her :)

    windows ME system
    symtoms
EXPLORER caused an invalid page fault in
    module COMCMID.DLL at 0177:61c05319.
and later in thread she reported the close program box wont work
I had suggested and online, she never responded until later
said they ran housecall and it had to delete something,, I still dont know if taskmanager works yet

    problem devices
IRQ Holder for PCI Steering pci\irqholder\41 error code 22
MPU- 401 compatible MIDI bios\*pnpb006\OB error code 28
Systemboard extension for... Bios\*pnp 0c01\01 error code 15
I think but am not sure she solved 22 and 28,,
when trying the troublshooter from device manager Systemboard it wont open,,I have suggested getting to it through help and support

And also a ink in the startup folder to resume ie6setup.
Thats another can of beens ,I have suggested taking it out for now But it wasnt done.

User doesnt know what pc brand make and model number
I have asked about the AUTOEXEC ,, no responce so far

    Is this safe to suggest

    ======
find and rename AUTOEXEC.bat to AUTOEXEC.BAK,, reboot.
see if another AUTOEXEC.bat was created again ?

Reboot into safe mode exit the help screen
    Open Device Manager there
Select then remove ALL error-flagged devices
Select then remove ALL 'Other Devices'
Selct then remove ALL instances of duplicated devices
Reboot to Normal Mode - Windows will reinstall required drivers (it may take 2 or 3 reboots) so restart a few times

    See if that helps
Examine Device Manager for any marks, and report back with results
    =======

    Regards
    Lonny

    Hi Lonny/trish34,

In AIDA32 "computer name" would be the computer ID.

Information that could identify the motherboard/chipset may help to find a good set of drivers. Pls post the information listed for: AIDA32 v3.xx > Computer > Summary > Motherboard > Motherboard Name...and below that Motherboard Chipset.
    AIDA32 v3.xx > Motherboard > Motherboard Properties > Motherboard ID...and below that Motherboard Name.

    Matt

PS comcmid.dll is not a microsoft dll...if that helps.

I do not think renaming the Autoexec.Bat file will do any good at first. Someone has done some hacking with the C:\Windows\System\Restore\Filelist.Xml file. This file contains a listing of the protected files. This file is protected, also. This file controls what is in the vxdmon.dat file, a part of System Restore.

    Trish34 that info is good.

Did you receive a CD with the computer that mentions Pcchips or SIS drivers or motherboard/system drivers?

Thought you were going to say that :)

I went to the Pcchips website and found drivers, but the news is not great. I downloaded one set and they are just the drivers...no installation program...no instructions...not even a readme.

    Anyway here they are:
    AGP driver
    ftp://ftp.pcchips.com.tw/agp/sis.zip
    VGA driver
    ftp://ftp.pcchips.com.tw/vga/sis630.zip
    Sound driver
    ftp://ftp.pcchips.com.tw/sound/sis7018.zip
    LAN driver
    ftp://ftp.pcchips.com.tw/lan/sis900.zip

There are 3 or 4 modems listed and hopefully you wont need those.

Before installing the drivers you should open AIDA32...go to Report (in the main menu (next to View)) and click on Quick Report-All Pages -> Plain Text...then click Save To File...save it as say Report 1. You will then have a record of your current hardware/drivers. Save a copy of this to a floppy as well.

When you download them, note where the files are saved to.

The driver files are in Zip form. You will need Winzip to extract (decompress) them. When you extract them make a "new folder" (a button at the bottom right of the Extract screen/window) and call it "agp" "vga" "sound" or "lan ".

After extracting go each folder, find the .inf file for Win ME, RIGHT-click on it and select/click "install ".

Having these drivers available for Windows may or may not have a direct effect on on those hardware errors, lets hope they do.

I would then follow Lonny's proceedure, EXCEPT not remove duplicated devices the first time (that may remove something you do not have drivers for), do it only if the errors are still present or other errors are found.

Note: When you reboot to Normal Mode and Windows is searching for divers and it offers where to look "A drive(floppy)" or "CD drive ", etc ... uncheck all the selections ...that will make it search it's own system files for the correct drivers.

If the hardware is installed properly, a lot of the other problems you are having may be solved. Hope so. Post back if any of this is confusing.
