Someone advised me a few years ago to surf the internet with a limited user account instead of using the admin account for security purposes. I have been doing this for a few years now.

What exactly does surfing with a limited user account protect me from?

Does it mean my computer can't get a virus or other problems?

    Thanks for the education.

Hi jefffoxsr. In a way yes surfing the internet with a limited user account is safer than using the administrator account. If a virus were to infect your computer it would have less of an impact on your computer because it would only affect the limited account and not the entire computer. If you were to surf the internet with an administrator account and you got a virus or other malware, then the malware would have an easier time taking control of your system. As long as you have the proper security programs on your computer to protect you from malware then it won't make much of a difference if you browse the internet with a limited or an administrator account. IMO I have browsed the net with an administrator account just because its easier to manage and I don't have to log out of my account and log into another account just to make a system wide change. As long as you have some common sense and you know what you are doing then I don't see why you shouldn't use an administrator account. But if are still new to computers then you should use a limited account to surf the internet.
