Administrator rights on a home PC

I have win2000 professional on a stand alone home PC and I am having trouble with the "Administrator rights" when I try to download my online McAfeevirus scanner. This has resulted in opening a virus (the re: thing) and I need to be able to activate it. Is there a way to discontinue the Administrator rights for the home user? Thanks for your help, Fortunately I can open my mail on the laptop.

 

As administrator, login. Create another user account via the control panel applet. By default the new user will be givin power user rights. A lot of things won't be able to install for this user account, but the user will be able to do everyday work with office documents, etc.

I have just re-installed 2000 on my home system. previously I always ran as Adimnistrator.

I have decided to run as a Power User except for Program installs, re-configurations etc.

The silly question - how do I set my User account so that all Administrator configuration changes, program installs etc. are applied and accesible to the user (desktop view etc.)?

Also, can the Power User then delete desktop shortcuts (for example) if these were created whilst logged in as Administrator?
