I've recently switched to Vista - not liking it yet. I'm trying to email my Income taxes using UFile, but it requires an update and won't do so. I've tried right-clicking on the short cut to choose Administrator - but it's greyed out. Anyone know what i can do?

    Hi NancyD

Well, I'm certainly no expert in Vista....my mom just recently got a new computer so we've been having our share of problems with it.

Did you originally INSTALL the tax program with administrative rights? If not, you might want to reinstall. Also, if you have UAC turned on, you might want to turn it off reboot and see if that solves the problem.

If anyone has any better suggestions...by all means, jump in.

    Administrator Mode

Thanks all. I apologize for sounding stupid, but how would I know if I installed the program using Administrator Mode. I installed under my name and it says "Administrator" and "Password-protected" beside my name in User Accounts. Thanks.

I know certain programs ask to make sure you run them as administrator by right clicking on the icon and choosing "run as administrator ". Arie is right about UAC, I only meant to turn it off temporarily as it sometimes can interfere with installs and downloads as my mom and I experienced when installing an HP printer.

Yes, but doing that can also create problems, since then the software may install in locations where it won't have (access) permissions once you turn UAC back on.

Success - I pushed shift - then right-clicked on short-cut and chose "run as "

Glad to hear it worked...and yes, Arie is right again...by installing the HP printer with UAC off, it causes all sorts of problems once turned on again...but that is another discussion :)
