    Using Windows-XP and Seamonkey 1.1.7

It has become apparent to me that I only thought I knew what I was doing.

As is my practice, I made a new Profile "RAY-2008" for this next years email.

I then copied the "bookmarks.html" file and the "abook.mab" file plus "abook-1.mab" through "abook-13.mab" files from the 2007 slt folder to the new 2008 slt folder.

Note: I send e-mail to different groups and have made 13 different address books besides the Personal Address Book and the Collected Address book.

The copied over bookmark file and the Personal Address book from 2007 show up fine in the new Profile "RAY-2008" but, I do not have the extra address books of "abook-1.mab" through "abook-13.mab "

I suppose there is a long way round to get them duplicated in the new profile but, does anyone know of an easy way to get last years extra address books moved to the new profile.

I had the extra address books last year while using Seamonkey 1.0.5 and I don't recall the extra address books being a problem when I changed profiles from RAY-2006 to RAY-2007 and moved or copied things over.

    Thanks, Ray

Open the old profile. Open the address book. You should be able to export, then import into the new profile.

The old address book should exported as a .ldif file. I have given specific names to each address book, then exported to wherever I wanted to save the file. Then, it can be imported from the new profile address book.
I don't know about have so many abook, mab address books, but the imported ABs would should up in the profile as impab.mab.. The "im" stand for Imported.

Guys, I had already tried the Export - Import trick and that will work except it will only do one address book at a time which means I will have to do the procedure 13 times i.e. 13 exports and then 13 imports.

I was hoping there was an easier way to do it. I'll keep experminting

Thanks for the suggestions -- Ray

I don't know of any way to export/import several ABs with one click, since each AB is a separate entity. Thirteen ABs are a lot. And, they don't serve any useful task, as the same addresses are in either the Personal or Collected ABs. This is my experience. Well, I never figured out this AB mess.

    Ray,

No magic bullet for this process. Export the 2007 Address Books as LDIF files, and then Import the LDIF files into the 2008 Profile. It doesn't take long, as I just did 5 AB's, and it went in a flash! :)

In reference to the comment of "They don't serve any useful purpose ", perhaps there is an easier way to do what I do and if so I sure could use the help if it will make my life easier.

Last year I decided to join a fight in Florida over excessive property tax increases.

I therefore wanted to send out e-mail to the various goverment bodies of the House, Senate, Governors Cabinet as well as County/City Officials and other identities such as the news media.

Depending on the subject at hand, each of theses groups required a slightly different wording in each of the mailings.

I therefore ended up having the 13 different different address books to make it convenient and accurate in addressing the different mailings.

Perhaps there is an easier way to address the email sent to different groups such as the 120 members in the Florida house and 40 in the Senate.

If there is an easier way to keep large or small groups of email addresses separated when doing bulk emailing I am sure open to any suggestions.

Thanks to all for the help --- Ray PS: I even did a web site on Florida Property Taxes and it is at http://www.brevardtax.net if you would like to compare states.

Sorry that I was not more specific with my reply.
One does not need to specify different ABs, although I have a few extra ones, myself, imported from other programs, and so not found in the Personal or Collected AB. As set up any outgoing address will be saved to one of the last two ABs, regardless of the AB where they were, originally, located.
I stopped fighting the ABs after finding that addresses were stored in two different place, i.e. Personal or Collected (if a message was sent), as well as the newly created ABs.
Setting up a New List, of an existing AB, I can use it to send entire mailing lists.
If the addresses don't, already exist in one of the major AB, it take time. If the addresses exist, it may take only the first letter of the desired name to bring up the entire address. In fact, I set up a New List containing the addresses of my three sons. All I had to do was type their first letter (fortunately different), but even with identical first letter, there is a drop down which give the desired choices. In other words, if your ISP permits, you can enter all the desired addresses in one list (sub address book). This does not necessitate separate address books. If you have, now thirteen ABs, you will need 13 lists. I hope that this is clear enough.
