Okay, I'll admit to being slow to make the move from NS7.2 mail to Thunderbird, but I tried tonight and, yep, my fears were realized. I had a problem.

No errors messages and all appeared okay until I decided to take a closer look at my address books. On at least two of them (my largest - over 100 entries - and most important ones) not all the entries came over.

I also tried "Import" and got the same results. (Used LDIF)

I had no other "programs" running, although numerous "prosesses" were.

    :(

Let me get this straight. You exported from the NS7.2 address book the desired address books as .ldif files, and saved such files. Then you open TB address book, and imported the same address book.
I have done that operation with five differently named address books, and they all worked fine. I, only, once had a problem, and that when I tried to do that from AOL Communicator, a now defunct standalone mail client, then in beta, and the imported address books did not contain any addresses. Only the names of the persons. And, there were over 900 addreses.
I hope that you did not discard NS7.2, in case you did not follow the procedure outlined above.
I never tried to setup TB automatically, and, always used the manual procedure, and never failed. Although the address books had names like family.ldif, friends.ldif, etc, the files in the TB profile had names like impab.mab, impab-1.mab, etc.

    More on address books

When I installed TB, it asked which mail program I wanted to migrate from. I chose Netscape and everything (existing mail, all acounts and the address books) came over.

Everything looked 100% okay until I started looking at my address books. Most of the entries came over correctly, but some (not sure what percentage) are missing.

I then tried exporting the address books as .ldif from NS7.2 and then importing them from TB. But from what I see the same ones were missing a second time.

I was not foolish enough to delete NS - it's still there and I'm using it.

(One of the items which prompted me to do the migration was that NS mail is starting to get a bit "flakey." I have 2 subfolders which stopped accepting messages and I worked around that by creating new folders and dragging them over. Also, the address books themselves all function and are accessable from composing, but only the main one is accessable from the "Address" function.
