I have PAINFULLY gone through a list of 50+ names and addresses to place in a seperate group folder.

Unfortunately I did not think this through enough and they, whilst in a seperate folder are still under and in the Main Identity listing.

Therefore they also show up in my general contacts list.

How can I transfer this Group folde out of the Main Identity listing into a Contacts Group/Folder of its own so I can then delete this groups listings out of The Main Identity section.

    Thanks

    Hi Roy

It need not have been that painful :)

If I understand you correctly you want to place certain addresses in a Group and then remove those addresses from the individual listings in your Contacts?

Address Book > New > Group - give the Group a name. Then click on Select Members and highlight those addresses you want in the Group in the left hand pane and click on Select > to put them in the Group.

If you called the Group 'Roy personal', say, that will be listed in bold in your contact list. The addresses you put in the Group will remain in your contacts list, but can be removed if you so wish.

Groups are generally created for mass mailings - I use them myself. To send an email to an individual address in the Group open the Group, right click on the individual address and select Send Mail.

To send the same mail to the entire Group click on To: in the New Message Pane and select the Group.

Is this what you wanted to know?

    Thanks Pete,

I believe you are on the right track.
I already have one group listing which I use for group mailout.

    I have.
    Shared Contacts
    Main Identity Contacts
    Contacts
My current Group Folder is under Contacts.

I have been able to follow your advice and get the additional Group Folder I require into either Shared Contacts or Contacts....HOWEVER when I delete from the Main Identity contacts the names I have transferred to the Group Folder then they also delete themselves from that folder as well.

    ???????

Well, I was clearly wrong to suggest that having made the Group you could then delete the addresses from the main list - not something I have done and should have tried before advising :(

My best guess - it's 'by design' - doubt you can do anything about that in OE, unless someone else has other ideas.

May be different in Outlook, but I don't use that.
