Adding more RAM

I have a Compaq SR1711NX with 512K RAM (2 X 256K).
Now do I get 2 more 256K sticks to make a 1G or get a 512K stick or does it matter? Not sure if the RAM needs to be matched.

I see that your system has a maximum memory of 4GB. With 4 slots, you can go with either 2 256k sticks or one 512k stick. Here is the page for adding memory to your system. Looks like the memory sizes can be different.

Thanks Mike. Been researching. Went to Crucial.com and they recommend pairing them. Though I can put 1 512K. I need to check at work, we have an employee purchase plan for HP. Thats how I got my computer.

Don't buy generic RAM, it probably won't work.
