    Hi,
We have a Win XP SP2 Home computer networked with a Win 98SE computer using a cable modem and a router.

We would like to add a dial up connection (NetZero Free) to our Win 98SE computer so that we can connect to the Internet when Cable service is interrupted.

Can someone advise how to do this?

    Thanks

jslow--Assuming your Win98 PC has a dialup modem (which should be updated to DUN 1.4 if it is not already
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;q285189#kb2 ), you should be able (using cable) to go to the NetZero (or Juno--www.juno.com) site, download the software, install and sign up for service. You have to look for a little three line box if you want the free service. Or you can phone them to set up the account.
I went to both sites and found that the window to sign up for free service on the NetZero site was not functioning, whereas Juno was allowing access to the free service sign up site.
I guess you know that Juno and NetZero are no parts of the same company.
Of course the Win98 PC will have to be connected directly to a phone line.

    Hi Jim,
    Thanks for the reply.

My Win 98SE has a 56k modem and it is connected to the phone line.

I downloaded and installed NetZero Free.

My concern is what settings might have to be added or changed to accomodate both cable and dial up service.

Are there any other issues to be concerned about.

I'll have to check on the DUN 1.4 update.

    Thanks

jslow--I do not know if networking causes any specific problems, but I run both dialup (through Juno) and cable access on the same PC. In fact you can have them running in the Internet at the same time (two instances of the browser).

    Jim,
    Thanks for the info.
I found and downloaded DUN 1.4. I'll install it tomorrow and then see if I can connect.

    Hi Jim,
Once I downloaded & installed DUN 1.4 (dun14-se.exe) on the Windows 98SE computer everything worked OK.
I had no further problem connecting.

    Thanks
