    WinXP Home, SP2
    My current sys has 2 SATA HD's - 1 is 200gig, 1 is 160 gig.
New sys will have a 160 gig HD and support for up to 4 SATA HD's.

I want to take the 160 gig from my current sys (no OS on it) and move it to the new sys. Should be no problem right? Just plug it in and register it with winXP (Disk Management)? I understand that some programs may have to be re-installed, no problem there.

Another one - my current sys will go to my daughter - Her sys is non-SATA presently. She has a 250 gig IDE HD including OS. I need to remove my version of WinXP from the SATA so she can use her version of XP as the OS. How do i get her OS moved to the SATA drive since winXP cannot be copied? I'm thinking that a re-install of Her WinXP is required because of the differences in a SATA drive and an IDE drive. She is a big user of AOL but i dont think a problem exist in moving her data files from the old IDE HD to the new SATA HD (altho she may have to re-install AOL). I will have an external HD available that is large enough to hold all her data files.

    Thank you,
    savagcl

Soumds like a fresh install of windows xp is what is needed as the drivers will not be correct for the new system.

Right - providing your new mobo has 2 Sata headers which is most likely. You don't say if the new 160 Gb is SATA or PATA - either way round the answer is the same :)

I think the reference to 4 SATA drives can be interpreted as 2x stand alone SATA drives plus 2x SATA drives configured as RAID.
The alternative to a reinstall is to use disk cloning software such as Ghost, Acronis ...

Sorry, my goof - the new MB has 4 SATA plugs but i only ordered it with 1 SATA drive.
The two SATA drives i have now a 200Gb and a 160 GB, The 200 will go to my daughters
sys and the 160 i will keep. That will give me 320GB and her sys 450 GB (she has 4
    users in her household).

So, since it already has a SATA drive with the OS, all i need to do is add my SATA (non
    OS) and re-install my programs.
It comes with integrated video and sound but they can be dis-abled. I want to add my
Audigy 2 zs sound card and put in a BFG 6600GT for graphics.
Since it comes with a 305 watt PS, i'll need to replace it with my 550 watt The 305 Watt is
not enough power with a BFG 6600GT.

The configuration you mentioned don't sound bad, 2x standalone and 2 for RAID but thats
    for the future.

    thanks,
    savagcl
