Very surprised to hear that it is possible to buy a new printer which is not compatible with XP

Of what form is the driver - a .exe file. a .inf file or what?

Copy the driver to a floppy and point the Add New Printer Wizard to the A:\ drive. It could be that the driver is not in fact compatible with XP.

To be able to help you directly we need to know the make and model no. of the printer.

Printer is ticking me off. :(

It is a Lexmark Z 45 se. I did get the driver to download and got the printer hooked up. On to new problums. I did have a lexmark Z22 and it worked fine for a while and than one day it would only print a few lines. Got a hold of tech suport on that they told me to run a self test on it and the self test worked fine. They told me to uninstal it and reinstall it so i did that and still the same thing it would print a few lines than just stop and the lights on the printer would start blinking. I bought a new cable they said it might be a faulty cable. Still same thing.. I figured what the heck and bought a new printer a new USB cable to go long with it. a Z45 se. got it hooked up and the driver downloded and would you beleave the new printer is doing the same thing. Prints a few lines just stops and the lights start blinking.. I once agine get a hold of lexmark the tell me to do the self test it works fine they tell me to buy a new usb cord i do that still only prints a few lines than stops and the printer lights start blinking. Uggggggg They have me do the msconfig and just do a start up of just the windows service in case it is some thing elce that it is causing it not to work.. I do all that and it still only prints a few lines and stops. The next email i get there saying its not the printer but the PC.. Any Ideas. ? Jimbo

Thinking about your printing problem it seems likely that you have a problem with the print spooler - spoolsv.exe

Check in Services that Print Spooler is set to Automatic and that it is started and that Remote Procedure Call (RPC) is also set to Automatic and is started. You do not need the printer switched on or printing - both services should be started automatically on boot.

If both these conditions are met and the problem remains run System File Checker - spoolsv.exe is a system file and if corrupted should be replaced by SFC.

I would boot into Safe Mode. Go to the Printer folder and delete any printers there. Go to Add/Remove programs and remove any programs that are related to printing.
Reboot and reinstall the software for the new printer.

Thank you guys for all the help. I did the scan as you guys said above. Every thing came up clear both the spoolsv and RPC was set to Automatic. I did start in safe mode and delted the printer and reinstaled it. Still does not work. I got and email just a few min ago saying the Printer was faulty. I just bought the thing 2 weeks ago and they sent me an email saying Sorry to hear that your Warenty is out of date and that you where expecting it to last past that. And they could not issue me my cash back or a new printer. Go figure i just bought the thing 2 weeks ago. But once a gine thanks for the help Guys.

You're welcome :) , but I'd fight them all the way for a refund if you bought the printer (new) only a couple of weeks ago.

I just did all of the above deleted the printer got rid of all the printer drivers. Cleaned it all up.. Hooked up my other lexmark z22 and it is doing the same thing as the other one. It will print a page than stop and the printer lights start blinking. I did notice in the Cartridge Maintnence that the ink level indacter for both the black and the color has a Triangel with it shadded in yellow with a ! in the middle of it. So I am gussing now the printer both of them are no good. :(

Are you using original or compatible cartridges? - may have a bearing on this.

I am using Original in The new printer it came with 2 new ones.. And my old one I just bought 2 new ones for it. I also noticed last night that even after clearing out all the drivers and cleaning up the System and after rebooting in my Task Manager there was 2 Services running Called LEXPPS.EXE and LEXBCES.EXE I did some research on this and found out these are only supost to be used on Lexmark printers that are on a server But They where running on my PC even after removing all the softwear and cleaing every thing up. For now i Just did a LEXPPS.EXE.OLD on both and they have stoped running in the back ground. Any Ideas on how to get ride of these or is it safe to leave them at .exe.old

Quite safe to leave them as .old - they will not run as you have discovered. I would not delete them until you have either resolved this problem or given up :)

From the URL that Jim posted ....

Bruce Sanderson's Windows Web How to clean up printer drivers

did you read right to the end?
    etc ....
