In my home I have 2 Pc's connected to my Linkysy 4 port router which is connected to my Comcast Modem via a network cable.
Both Pc's are running Windows 2000 Pro..
I just got a HP LJ with a jetdirect card in it. I want to add the printer to my setup so that both Pc's can print to it.

I'm not using any type of IP scheme for the 2 Pc's. Both are able to surf the internet through the router to the comcast modem.

I don't want to always keep 1 pc on so that the other can use the printer.
How do I setup the printer to work.
    Advise.
    Thanks.
    Bill

I do not know about the printer that you have but I have an HP5850 cabled into my Linksys Router.

The Printer should have its own IP address asigned by the Router.

The printer drivers are installed separately on each machine.

And should not in any way depend on any one machine. Which is much better than my HP5550 which the other two machines can only use if the machine I am on right now is powered up.

I just got a HP LJ with a jetdirect card in it.

I just did a bit of checking and I see this about that printer.

J4135A - HP Jetdirect connectivity card for USB, serial, and LocalTalk connections

So I do not see it as you being able to do what you would like.

I think you need this card to do what you want to do.

    J4169A - Fast Ethernet (100Base-TX) and Ethernet (10Base-T)

Both line is BOLD are from info on the HP site.
