Guys, this really is a 'duh' question (from a tech who should know better)

In a brand-new, straight-off-the-shelf, install of WinXP - when it's finished and after it boots for the first time, should the Add\Remove Programs list have anything in it?

My guess is that it should; there should be a pile of stuff that gets thrown in as Windows does its thing. But I'm fooling around with a new XPP install on an old machine, and the ARP list is totally bare - empty - unoccupied - no tenants.

Gawd knows how many times times I've done this XP install process, so I really outta know the answer. But I can't remember if the list only begins to populate after you add a prog or two, or whether there should be some native entries in the box, that have been placed there during the install process.

    Input, please

Edit: A search of the net revealed that this 'empty ARP list' can occur because of some minor bug in WinXP. But I've done this install three times - once in Fat32 format and twice in NTFS and each time the result has been the same - the ARP list is empty from the getgo.

All I really need to know is if someone out there has done a new install and can tell me if the ARP list has any entries immediately after the install has finished.

In a new install? There's nothing in Add/Remove programs. Now after you go online & run Windows Update, there should be a whole lists of Windows XP updates listed...

Thanks Arie. So you reckon that the ARP list would be completely empty, immediately following a fresh install?

OK, I'll take your word for it.

Interesting, I don't think I've ever looked in there at such an early stage...

    Cheers :)

After doing Windows Updates: The Add/Remove programs list will still be mostly empty!!

Only when you check off the "Show Updates" checkbox at the top of the window will you see all the updates listed.
