Currently, my backup data i.e. address book, quicken, favorites, Outlook Express messages are on an Adaptec Direct CD. Will I encounter any problems inputing this data to a new PC? Please advise. Thanks for your time.:)

Should be no problem. You'll need to have DirectCD or some other packet writing software installed on the new PC however.

Appreciate such a rapid reply, Zander. Can I expect a new HP PC, with a CD burner, to have (Direct CD) writing software?

Probably not, Lis - if my HP Laptop is anything to go by - it had an HP burning program on it - hardly surprising as HP also make burners :)

Dumped that and installed Nero so that all my m/c's have the same.

Just remembered something. When you create a cd using DirectCD, besides the data you write to it, it copies a UDF reader to the disc also. You won't see this file on the disk unless you try to view it on a computer that doesn't have a UDF reader installed. If the computer you're using doesn't have a UDF reader installed you'll be prompted to install the reader when you put the disc in the drive (assuming the autorun feature is on). I've done this several times myself and it always worked. However, I've never installed it on an XP system so I can't say for sure if it works or not on XP. If you don't have any software that includes a UDF reader, I'd give it a try. If you do, first, using system restore, make a restore point so if it would give you any trouble you can revert back to where you were before you installed it.

Another option for you would be to copy the cd back to the hard drive on the computer you're currently using and then burn a new cd using Easy CD Creator.

Contemplating purchasing a new PC some time after January because Microsoft will not longer support Windows 98se; at that time. I want to make sure that my backup data will input into the new PC. Perhaps burning a CD would would be the best and safest option? Thanks for your reply. Zander. A rumor that Microsoft is coming out with a new OS called Longhorn is circulating?

New computers should be loaded with XP. XP will read Direct CD files whether or not you have Direct CD loaded. If you don't have Direct CD loaded, you won't be able to further write to that disc.

But as discs are cheap enough, I burn a regular Data disk as backup.
