    I wanted to add this to our forums to help those who might ask whether or not they should uninstall build 6.81 of Ad-aware before installing the new SE Personal Edition 1.01.

    From canuk (Admin on Lavasoft's Support Forum)...
    "Ad-Aware SE may not function correctly if old versions are not removed prior to installing a new version or an upgrade. To ensure proper installation and operation of Ad-Aware SE please make sure "Yes, uninstall previous version of Ad-Aware. (Recommended)" is selected and click "Next" to continue. "

    From Herumutsu (Admin on Support Forum)...
    "The cleanest and easiest approach to getting rid of all of them [program files & plug-ins] at once is to simply delete the whole old installation-directory after the uninstallation of all installed components (Ad-aware + any Plug-Ins that show up in Add/Remove) is completed and the computer has been rebooted at least once after that. "

    From cannymum (Super LXP)...
    "Yes, any older version should be uninstalled prior to installing SE. SE will, however, prompt you to do so during installation and assist you with the procedure. "

    OK, those should make it very clear to anyone searching out the question of uninstall / install. The answer is definitely uninstall build 6.81 before installing SE 1.01.

    =======================================================

    IF you're wondering about plug-ins, Corrine (Admin on Lavasoft Support Forum) posted a good thread here.

    =======================================================

    IF you're wondering about the old version (6.81) being supported, here is canuk's answer, "Reference file updates will remain available but it is recommended that all users upgrade ASAP in order to enjoy the new scanning engines and protection provided in SE. "
    Seconded by Eric the Red (Moderator of Support Forum), "Yes, Build 6.181 is still supported and updated reference files will be posted. "

    I hope this helps!

    Hi CharlieJ,
    thanks for the information!

    I agree that it is always better/safer to uninstall any previous version of any application before installing a new version.

    However, I created a fresh Ghost Image (to be able to roll back) and then installed SE but did not allow the installer to remove 6.0. This was in order to compare the two.

    On my system, 6.0 and SE coexist without problems.

    I would recommend to wait a day or two to see if anyone has problems with SE. If nothing serious, then uninstall 6.0 and install SE.

    Hello CharlieJ,

    Yes, they coexist. This will be only for a short period of time. And v6.0 I suspect won't be updated for too much longer anyway. I recommended not uninstalling v6.0 for comparison purposes or in the event something went wrong. Also, this is not strictly an upgrade of the same program. In other words, not v6.1 for example.

    As for the Lavasoft warnings, a might overwrought, there are no conflicts as long as the two aren't run at the same time.

    Regards - Charles

    Charles,
    I have seen several posts that say the two versions can coexist peacefully. I'm not taking sides on the issue at all. The point of the original post was only to offer what the folks over at Lavasoft advise regarding the uninstall/install question.

    THANKS for your comments. Hopefully this thread will assist those seeking an answer -- or considering both versions until Build 6.81 is phased out.

    CharlieJ--Thanks for all the good info. Unfortunately, the URL's for plug-ins as provided by Corrine don't work. However, plug ins are available here
    http://www.lavasoft.de/support/download/ (right hand margin) and
    http://www.lavasoftsupport.com/index.php?showforum=65
    (The latter page seems to go to the URL mentioned by Corrine :confused: )
    It is not completely clear whether some at the first URL are still for the old (6.181) of AdAware or if the text just has not been updated. The second URL seems to provide what SE needs, and I think the only one that is new is the Vx2 remover.
