Funny, I still can't download any updates. Every time I open the updater in the program, it says No Updated Components Available. I have the latest build of the program too. To add to the weirdness, I did a manual download and put it in the AdAware folder and it said I already had this file in there. I juxtaposed the 2 and both were said to be created on Feb. 17, 2003. How could I already have the current reffile in my folder if today's the 17th? Totally ----ed up.

shadowhawk--WebUpdate can be set to automatically look for reflist updates when you boot. I do not use this configuration, so do not know if downloading also occurs automatically if a new reflist is found. In Start|Programs|Lavasoft (or Ad-Aware) click on "Ad-Aware6 user manual" and lookup what is said about WebUpdate and Tweak to see if you have the auto search activated. Also, perhaps your Proxy Settings are not correct?
If you cannot solve the problem, perhaps post in the Lavasoft support forum

I found what you were talking about and it was already enabled. If so, does this mean the program downloaded the new reference files automatically w/o my even knowing about it?

Shadowhawk - Just in case you are unaware. There are 2 update features . One for the program -- near the bottem --check for updates now -- where no updated components available - could come back as an answer-----
The other is for the update of reference Files. It is located along the top to the left of the I icon and looks like a globe.
Use the globe icon and you will get the latest reference files

They're both the same update feature. But it doesn't matter, I just checked the ref file version and it's today's version. The program's been auto-updating itself the whole time. What an idiot I am.

Yes, yes that's the one I have. The program was updating itself every time I ran it and that's why it said there were no updates available.

if i'm not mistaken, that is not a default setting. if you prefer it, all is well. if you wish to disable that setting...

click the gear icon at top
    select tweak bar on left
under tweak/expert settings look for webupdate settings
deselect "automatically look for updated reference files upon start "

my personal preference is to not permit any of these numerous security tools to update themselves automatically. it makes for more work for me to manually check and perform updates, but at least i have some degree of knowledge about what is being installed and when.

    ad aware

I have used the older version of ad-aware with good results, I think. I would run it every few days, and it almost always came up with two,or three bad guys. With ad-aware 6, it always comes up zero no goodniks. I have followed installation instructions correctly I think. Does ad aware 6 eliminate and not report???
    Thanks for any help.

    hi neil

there is a setting you can check...

click the gear icon at top
    select automation bar on left
startup action default is for clean automatically to be disabled (red x)

maybe you have a green check mark in front of yours?

but i still don't think that auto cleaning would preclude reporting.

if this does not work, i'd say the reason is either you have no offending spyware on your system, or the install is corrupted and you should reinstall.

    adaware 6

    adaware6 build 162;

Thanks for reply mark. sorry i didn't answer previous one sooner.
I eliminated ad aware 160, and redownloaded adaware 162.
ran it few times, but still no bad guys. Maybve no one interested in my piddling little surfing habits.
