I have an MSN Group with an album where I upload pictures to share with my family.

Recently, for no apparent reason, I get the following error message when I try to add photos:

"This page provides potentially unsafe information to an ActiveX control. Your current security settings prohibit running controls in this manner. As a result this page may not display correctly "

If I then click OK I'm taken to a screen where it is impossible to access any pictures for uploading.

I've searched the Web and particularly the Groups, and find there are a great many others with a similar problem. The suggested fixes include reinstalling an uncorrupted copy of comcat.dll, reinstalling IE6, and/or lowering the security settings. I've also done a full anti virus scan, which was completely clean.

I've tried everything short of reinstalling IE, but to no avail. Many others with the same problem also appear to have had no success.

I wonder if anyone who has had this error message (or one of its close variants) has found the answer?

Any help will be gratefully received.

hod--Just before the problem started, had you installed WinXP SP2? That will change your ActiveX settings in IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Custom Level.
On the other hand, there are several reasons for this specific message, depending on which version of WinXP you run. Here is one
    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q235653/
    Others here
    http://www.google.com/search?source...lly+unsafe+information+to+an+ActiveX+control"
If none of the above help and you have not run Windows Update lately, you might consider that.

    ActiveX Problem

    Many thanks for reply.

In the past I have installed, and uninstalled, SP2 because it kept on disconnecting my internal modem after booting up.

I've now reinstalled SP2 (I've switched to an external US Robotics modem which works OK), and also reinstalled Internet Explorer 6, and finally re-registered a new copy of the file comcat.dll which can apparently cause the same problems if corrupt.

None of this has made any difference except the wording of the error message is now slightly changed "Internet Explorer has blocked this site from using an ActiveX control in an unsafe manner. As a result, the page may not display correctly "

I can't see anything new on the many web sites dealing with this problem which I could try.

Any further suggestions welcome! Meantime I've switched to Firefox where there is no problem whatsoever.
