bobm735--I suspect that message is not telling you to install ActiveX. Rather that your security settings do not permit ActiveX controls to run. That game may require ActiveX controls to run.
IE Tools|Internet Options|Security tab|Custom Level| set "Run ActiveX controls and plugins" to Enable.
Or put the site into Trusted Sites. (uncheck the box "Require Server verification... ") I assume you do trust that site to not give you spyware.
Having said all that, I get messages like that from time to time and the issue really is not ActiveX controls. Could be your firewall. Or your Popup Stopper. The latter usually can be quickly disabled by holding down Control at the time you click to download the file.
P.S. Do you run SpywareBlaster or some similar program that stops the download of Browser Helper Objects? They are ActiveX controls.

    Activex Control IE6

Jim, I did all what you posted right to the letter and delete my spyware gaurd, Put site in (Trusted Site in security ) turned firewall off ,In security settings I enabled ActiveX controls to run set Run ActiveX controls and plugins" enable. In fact all the ActiveX controls are set at enable . And also went into add and remove and took out SpywareBlaster . And I held down on ctrl to disable my popup stoppers . And I still get the error message and it won't download so I can play.

    thank you

bobm735--I am sorry to hear that. I have no more ideas.
I suggest you reenable SpywareBlaster, your firewall, and your Security settings. Of course that will not help you solve the problem, but your PC will not be vulnerable to spyware from other sites.
I know nothing about iwon.com. Does it offer a Contact Us link so you can ask them?

    Hi
I'm not familiar with iwon either. I cannot even get to the site. its added to my hosts file, to prevent access.
a quick Google search iwon + spyware might lend a few clues

    Hi bobm735

SpywareBlaster is a set it and forget it type protection, no need to have it running. read its help file when you have time.

I thnk you missed my point, its not safe to visit any iwon websites period !
    much less download from there.

Have a similar problem in a computer I'm working on now...have been through all the things mentioned above, and a few more, and still cannot get Active X to work, to run an online security scan ( I suspect spyware/ malware is disabling the active X in an effort to conceal and protect itself) I am not getting a prompt to install Active X, just errors and failures and "nuthin'!" I'll be following this thread with interest, and if I stumble onto something, I'll share it. Meanwhile, Bobm735, please let me know if you solve your problem. I would love to fix this computer for this lady and then never answer another telephone call from her again! (Yes, that bad!) :)

    Iwon.com and ActiveX

    Hi Bobm735,

I've been having the exact same problem as you when it comes to the prize machine from Iwon.com.

I've tried everything. The only thing I hadn't tried yet, which I just did was to remove WindowsXP SP2.

Once I removed this support pack and rebooted my PC, I was able to successfully, once again, start using iwon's prize machine.

All my apps and utilities that I had installed on the PC continue to work without any errors from removing SP2. And, it sounds like we had some of the same ones there too.

It's nice to have my iwon back. I hope this helps.

    Victor :)
