Am using MS Outlook 2003, on a Windows XP Pro system. Have three Windows accounts, each with their own email account and address.

One user (myself) has a PDA phone which sync's with Outlook via ActiveSync. Had 4.0, upgraded to 4.2, tried 4.5, went back to 4.2 version.

Two problems... maybe one really... how to I avoid ActiveSync from starting up for the other two Users who do NOT use it or sync with anything?

Recently, while the PDA phone was in the craddle, the 3rd User (my son) logged in, checked his email, and ActiveSync 'sync'd with his Outlook account, and add all of my Contacts to his Contact list. Boy we no fun to clean up.

How can I avoid having ActiveSync start up / run for two of the Users, so that it only runs, and thus only Sync's with one of the three accounts, on the same PC... this while the PDA might be in the craddle at various times, under different users.

Just a guess...Look in this folder:
    C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs\Startup

If there is a shortcut there to ActiveSync, move it to your user profile.

    Hi Steve,

Yep, already looked there, it is not in the 'All Users' Startup area, nor in any user's Startup area.

I did find it in MSCONFIG in the Startup there, as WCESCOMM which explains why its starting up.

Before guessing and toying, thought would ask for options or settings. As I looked at disabling it in Windows start up in general, then add the ActiveSync to my own person Startup.

Main thought is, why load the program for each User, when only one needs it. So guess is disable and set in Start-up for one person, maybe the answer? Anyone confirm this?

    Update:

Initial tests of removing WCESCOMM from the Windows general startup area, and placing it as a app to run in my own \startup area, is working. Now it just runs as a desktop app when I login, not starting with other two users login.

But still wonder what the designed option is, to avoid ActiveSync from trying to sync with each user on a desktop?
