i recently had a virus and adware problem and managed to get the problem resolved but i notice since the problem was corrected whenever i go to certain sites i get a message that tells me (your current security settings prohibit running active x controls on this page). i went to my internet explorer security settings and have tried to change them several times and no luck at all. this is very annoying and i cant use my ifriends account or view many other sites i use often. please help!!!!

If you used a program like SpywareBlaster or the IEspyads file(s), or using Spybot's bad download blocker, this will occur whenever one of these bad sites is accessed as a first or third party.
You can change the settings for the Internet Zone all you like and have no affect. This is because these sites may have been put into the Restricted Zone of IE, by either SpywareBlaster or IEspyads, or another like application. I do not recommend changing the Restricted Zone settings.
You can check for this by looking in the lower right of the IE window, in the Status bar. If it says "Restricted" or "Unknown (Mixed)" this is what is happening.
FYI, an ActiveX control is a method a website can install and run programs on your computer, and is how you were infected by virus and adware problems. The only good uses I have found for ActiveX is for Windows Update, online AV scans, and maybe installing Macromedia's Flash and/or Shockwave.
You could install FireFox and have no ActiveX concerns at all.
