I recently had my computer cleaned and reinstallation cd was run. It was running beautifully after adding more RAM 2GBs. Well, I put the CD in to add the fax program and bingo no media player and not IE 8. I reinstalled IE8 and Media player, but now it is running without add-ons and no Active X Controls to be found!!! I frustrated, I am afraid to download from unknown source, and Microsft.com doesnt have download for active x??? I updated the settings in tools, security and restarted and still nothing.

DOnt know what to do. Tried a restore but the computer will not do it as a restore point and date??

Help!! ANy fixes for this. Wish I had not wanted the windows fax program. I still have the disk for the Operating System. Funny thing the Diagnose Connections Problems is enabled but says its not available?? as does Windows Messenger under the add-ons. I did not check the box for messenger when I loaded the fax program? I admit I am confused and need help. Anyone? One more thing my computer says IE running without add-ons but they are enabled for the most part all except active x!!

    Thank you,

    Mona:confused:

    http://www.microsoft.com/security/resources/activex-whatis.aspx

It should be already installed on your PC in IE.

    Enabling ActiveX
1 Launch your Internet Explorer web browser and click the "Tools" button.

2 Scroll down and click "Internet Options." Click the "Security" tab and click "Custom Level. "

3 Click "Prompt" under "Download signed ActiveX controls." Click "Enable" under "Run ActiveX controls and plug-ins." Click "Enable" under "Script ActiveX controls marked safe for scripting. "

Since you don't say what OS you have, this is an assumption. Probably will be ok in XP and Vista.

    Reset Internet Explorer Browser Settings

Go to the Start menu. Go to "Control Panel." In Windows XP, click "Internet Options." In Vista and Windows 7, click "Network and Sharing Center." Look in the left-hand pane, at the bottom, for a link that reads "Internet Options." Click it.

Click the "Advanced" tab in the dialog window that appears.

Click the "Reset" button under "Reset Internet Explorer Settings. "

Read the warning. Click "Reset" in the confirmation window.

    Restart Internet Explorer.

If that don't work, uninstall IE8 in the add/remove programs and it will roll back to 7. Then go to MS and update to IE 8 again.

Yes I believe I said I had XP as an operating system. My computer was redone with a reinstallation disk recently because it would not boot up. I just now found 19 files for Active X dated in 2002 which is when the computer was made. Would these file work or would they be corrupted?

    I will try your suggestion.

P.S. I apologize I did not originally say that I was operating on XP.

Go near the top left of this page to User CP and fill out your system specs and be sure to save them. They will show and we won't have to ask you again.

Not sure if they would work on not. May be corrupted as to why you are having the problem.
Try my suggestion and report back. Somebody else may be able to shed some light on this also.
