    Hi mates

I am running a win10 v1709 on a laptop for months. It is already Activated according to the "System" dialog bottom part.

Suddenly today, a repeating blue message popup saying i have to go to Settings as the Win require activation.

When i check at Task Manager i found the "Windows Activation Service .." is running. Whats happening??

Have you made any major hardware changes to the machine. That is the first thing that comes to mind.

Hi Bill, i don't remember making any changes to the hardware as it is a laptop.

I think there was a OS hiccup eg failure starting or closing down, that trigger it.

I have been able to just stop the service at the Task Manager. so far no more pop up.
I don't seem to be able to find such a service in the Servers dialog.

I am now looking at the Registry
    [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SoftwareProtectionPlatform\Activation]
    changing to
    "Manual"=dword:00000001

BAD NEWS: Inspite of all i tried, the unwelcome Service came back when i shut down & restart.

What happens when you go ahead and re-activate?

Have you stopped WU (Windows Updates)?
W 10 is running Version 1803 OS Build 17134.228 on my HP Notebook and was installed on 01/05/2018!
    Is your Profile current??

    Hi guys

Arie, reactivating is the same. Neil, I don't think it is new version waiting to be update as i still set at v1709 and laptop don't allow auto update with my wifi ISP set to metered.

    SOLUTION:

Here is what i found when i check where the service is coming from. It is in the Program Files (86) Common\FLEXnet Publisher\FNPLicensingService.exe. Once i stop this from starting up, that blue screen warning of Activation is gone, seems to be for good.

On googling this service came from Adobe. The funny thing it warns of the need to activate. I assume too hastily that it came from Window that is why all the fuss these few days. What a relief, i hope or till another problem. Sigh!

Hahah.. Just this week I got 1709 (16299.611) offered. I tried it when it came out, but it killed my old pc, a lot of things 'broke', so I went back to the previous version. This time everything went smooth :)

Adobe Flash must now be activated in order to use it and it has been this way for quite awhile. The reason for this is Adobe Flash is a well known major security liability and a frequent target of browser-based attacks. Therefore it is recommended that you activate it only when needed.
