Hi, i got activation error 0xC004C008 after i did some upgrade on my pc. I upgrade my VGA and PSU and change the whole components into a new casing. The technician at the store said my mobo had a component breakdown so it won't display anything to my monitor, so i also changed the mobo with the same type and it's running well, except, windows keep asking me to activate it.

When i activate the windows using the keys i had, the error occurred times to times. What seems to be the problems and what's the solution?

Extra info, i'm using Windows 7 Home Basic OEM version

    Welcome to WindowsBBS :)

I m no expert on Windows 7 Activation, but you may be running foul of the activation limitation imposed on OEM copies if Windows 7 ......

    Windows 7 activation error: 0xC004C008

As far a Windows is concerned you have installed it on a new computer as the hardware has changed even though your new motherboard is notionally the same.

You have a number of possibilities to try ......

First go to Change Product Key and enter your key there ......

Orb > right click on Computer > Properties and scroll to the bottom of that window to Change Product Key.

If that does not work try activating using the Automated phone system (screenshot) and if this fails use the contact Microsoft link.

    More possibilities here .....

This search for 'activation Windows 7 on new motherboard' may be more useful .....

Thanks for fast reply Pete, seems i have to activated it by phone. But do you think there's possibility the windos will be just fine if i use my old mobo? I sent it to the distributor for a repair attempt, if it's done, do you think if i use the old one everything will be just fine?

I really can't give you a definitive answer on that - I would be inclined to try the phone activation option with the new mobo first.

Okay, problems done, just want to tell problems solved and to clarify in case someone got the same problems. I've contacted microsoft using number from automated phone system and everything solved there. Well, operator redirect me to tell the problems via email though, which clarify all those stuff. Usually, could done it by phone without redircting.

Also, i've asked the customer support about using change product key to activte windows, and they said it only worked if you have more than one product key, so in my case (and if others got the same) it won't work. Only automated phone system works to solve this problems.

You can close this thread, and once again, thanks Pete :D
