Acronis Backup restore

Am currently making an Acronis backup on my Mums computer to transfer onto another drive. The new drive doesn't have anything installed on it, as it only arrived this morning.

Is the easiest way of installing the backup onto this drive to put it in as a second drive, restore the backup to it and then take the old drive out? Or do I need to install windows on the new drive and then do it that way?
